About the
Artist
Justin
Pearce is the great-great-grandson of George E. Ohr, known world-wide
as the "Mad Potter of Biloxi," and the grandson of Joe Moran,
the artist who once captured on canvas the beauty of the Gulf Coast for
all to see at Moran's Art Studio. Moran's Art was in business for nearly
50 years until it was demolished into nothing but broken bricks and memories,
Aug 29, 2005.
Justin
Pearce, 24, lived at Moran's Art Studio for 20 years.
Rather than painting, Justin expressed his creativeness through writing
poems and short stories. He finished his own book of poetry in the sixth
grade, using cartoons he created in Corel Draw and binding it with colorful
sewing thread.
At 15, Justin's uncle Mike Williams, a professional photographer who was
once named as the best photographer on the Gulf Coast, introduced him
to photography. Justin was instantly hooked. He had finally found a portal
to express himself - painting with light.
Since graduating high school, Justin has excelled in education. He recently
earned a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications at Southern Miss. As
a member of the Air Force Reserve, he has attended military schools for
photojournalism, including Basic Journalism Course, Intermediate Photojournalism
Course, Editor's Course, and a variety of other career development courses.
In 2004, Justin won Best Photojournalist in the Air Force Reserve, as
well as Best Sports Writer. He advanced to the active duty AF media contest,
where he placed first in Sports Writer and second in photojournalism.
